General Questions

What is Myth?

Myth is a browser and communication platform that represents the internet as a shared, three-dimensional space. It enables users to browse, annotate, communicate, and self-host content in a straightforward, privacy-respecting way. The Myth app is currently available for iOS.

How does Myth work?

Webpages are arranged in the 3D space of the Mythnet using a consistent algorithm. Users can navigate this space, interact with others, create new pages, and annotate existing websites in real time. Myth operates without collecting unnecessary data or tracking users' activity.

Why is it called Myth?

Fantasy and myth are creations of the imagination. The imagination, driven by our curiosity, is the source of creativity and the dream behind the Mythnet: to restore the internet's potential as a tool for us to explore, communicate, and collaborate with each other across obstacles.

Privacy and Security

Is Myth private?

Yes. Myth only stores essential account data and annotations. All other activities, including browsing and direct communication, are processed locally or peer-to-peer. Myth does not sell or share user data.

Can I use Myth anonymously?

Yes. An account is only required for features like annotations, invisibility, or hosting on Myth's servers. Otherwise, the platform can be used without a paid account, or completely anonymously without signing in at all.

Features and Functionality

What are the key features of Myth?

Alias

Your Alias is your public profile. It includes your chosen name, optional image, and links to your hosted Mythpages or external content. Paid users can also organize groups of pages by theme or purpose.

Communicator

The Communicator manages all forms of interaction: text, voice, and video. Local proximity chat and global text messages are available to all users. Paid features include encrypted one-on-one or group communication.

Navigator

The Navigator enables exploration of the Mythnet and search for specific Mythpages or page groups. Users can also browse traffic trends or heavily annotated pages.

Creator

The Creator lets users host content. Free users can self-host Mythpages, while paid accounts can host on Myth's servers for greater convenience.

Annotator

The Annotator allows users to comment on webpages. These annotations are stored on Myth's server and visible to others viewing the same page. Annotations are tied to the page, not the user, making them useful for shared discussions or references.

Handshake

Handshakes are required for direct interactions between users. Both parties must agree to the terms of the conversation—predefined or customized—before communication begins. The agreement is encrypted and stored locally as a record for both users, ensuring clarity and accountability.

Paid Features and Accounts

How much does Myth cost?

Myth is free to use. A $3/month paid account unlocks additional features like annotations, invisibility while in Mythnet, and hosting content on our servers.

Why does Myth charge for some features?

The subscription model ensures sustainability without resorting to ads, data collection, or other invasive practices.

Community and Moderation

How does Myth handle inappropriate behavior?

Users can report others for misconduct. A handshake agreement is required for direct communication, which creates a clear record of terms. For public pages, moderation includes flagging content as inappropriate or illegal. Illegal Myth-hosted pages are removed immediately, and offenders are banned.

Can pages be flagged?

Yes. Pages can be marked as explicit or tagged for removal if they host illegal content. Users hosting illegal content on Myth's servers lose access to the platform.

Technical Details

What devices are supported?

Myth is currently available for iOS, with plans to expand to other mobile platforms, desktop, and VR.
